Manual method

Create a scheduled Health Connect ZIP backup to an installed cloud-storage provider on Android 14 or later.

  1. In Android Settings, search Health Connect and open Manage data → Backup and restore → Scheduled export.
  2. Enable export and choose daily, weekly or monthly frequency.
  3. Choose an installed cloud-storage app and a private folder, then save.
  4. After a successful export, locate Health Connect.zip and copy a dated version to independent storage.

Coverage and limitations: Google explicitly excludes health records from this export/import feature. The ZIP is documented for Health Connect restoration, not as a universal CSV report. Only data already in Health Connect is covered.

Size and time to allow

Illustrative small / central / large case: 0.01 / 0.5 / 5 GB (decimal GB). These are planning assumptions, not a measured average per person. 500 MB is a planning case for multiple apps contributing frequent fitness measurements; it is not a measured Android average.

Preparation: This route runs on a chosen schedule; verify a completed export instead of assuming creation immediately on enabling it. Transfer and cloud upload are additional.

For the central 0.5 GB example, network transfer alone is approximately:

Connection Estimated transfer
10 Mbps 9.5 minutes
50 Mbps 1.9 minutes
100 Mbps 57 seconds

Assumes 70% sustained use of the stated connection. Provider throttling, many small files, retries, local extraction and copying add time. For online backup use your upload speed. These are not estimates of the provider’s preparation queue. See calculation and large-file advice.

Store and verify the archive

The example is small enough for an encrypted USB key, external drive or private cloud folder. Choose a second independent copy as well; a single USB key is easy to lose and a sync folder alone can propagate deletion. For health records, restrict access and avoid shared-family/public-link destinations; keep encryption recovery information separately.

Create health_connect/YYYY-MM-DD/originals/, preserve the untouched download, and extract a separate working copy when needed. Allow extra free space for archive plus extraction; compressed text can expand far beyond twice its size. Record account/scope, export date, date coverage and missing items in a local README without passwords.

Verify export timestamp and nonzero size. Keep at least two dated copies so a scheduled replacement cannot erase your only older snapshot. Reopen a sample from the second copy before deleting or replacing any source. Storage choices and verification.

Sources and review

Public documentation was reviewed on 27 October 2026. No signed-in export or restoration was performed. Account options and availability can change; follow the current provider instructions.

This is an informational guide. We have not completed an authenticated export test for this source. Available records and options can vary by account, device and region.
