Manual method

  1. Confirm that the account has a verified email address. In Discord, open User Settings and Data & Privacy.
  2. Use Request Data. Desktop/browser lets you choose categories; mobile can request all account data.
  3. Keep access to the email address in use when you requested the package.
  4. Download and extract the package when emailed. Keep all supplied JSON/CSV files and preserve any important accessible attachments separately.

What you get: The package primarily covers your own data and sent messages, not every other person’s message in a server. Do not disable/delete the account before delivery: Discord says that cancels the request. Attachment references are not proof that file bytes were archived. Provider instructions. Supporting reference 1.

Size and waiting time

Planning example: 0.2 GB; light/heavy scenarios: 0.01–2 GB. These are estimates, not a measured population average or fixed limits. Own messages and account/server metadata, mostly structured text; saving linked attachments separately can add many GB.

Preparation: Discord says processing can take up to 30 days; another request must wait for the current one to complete.

Network transfer of 0.2 GB: about 4 min at 10 Mbps, 46 sec at 50 Mbps, or 23 sec at 100 Mbps. This assumes 70% sustained throughput and excludes preparation, manual work and extraction. These are download estimates; online backup takes additional time at your upload speed. Transfer calculations and large-file examples.

Store and check your archive

An encrypted folder on your computer is suitable for this small report; keep a second copy on an external drive. Allow roughly 0.6 GB of working space for the example, including an original, an extracted working copy and room to check it. Very compressed packages can need more. A USB key is useful for a spare copy, but should not be the only one. An encrypted online copy protects against losing the local devices.

Keep the original in discord/YYYY-MM-DD/original/. Record the account alias, selected scope, date range and missing items. Open old and recent records and sample attachments offline, then compare file sizes or checksums after copying. Keep the source account until you have checked the result.
