Manual method

  1. For account data, open Viber on your phone: More, Settings, Privacy, Personal data, then Request your data. Confirm and save the ZIP delivered by Viber.
  2. For conversations, separately open Account and Viber Backup; connect the supported cloud account and include photos/videos if wanted.
  3. Run Back Up and record its completion time and destination account.
  4. Keep the account-data ZIP locally and save essential media separately. The cloud chat backup must be restored through Viber on the supported platform.

What you get: The account report and chat backup have different coverage. Chat restoration requires the same phone number and cloud account; the documented backup route does not move history between Android and iOS. Read JSON locally rather than uploading sensitive records to a public viewer. Provider instructions. Supporting reference 1.

Size and waiting time

Planning example: 3 GB; light/heavy scenarios: 0.05–50 GB. These are estimates, not a measured population average or fixed limits. Message/media backup for a moderately active phone. The separate account-information ZIP is usually much smaller and is not the same dataset.

Preparation: Viber says the account-data ZIP arrives within 14 days. Chat backup depends on upload speed and media; allow minutes to hours as a planning estimate.

Network transfer of 3 GB: about 57 min at 10 Mbps, 11 min at 50 Mbps, or 6 min at 100 Mbps. This assumes 70% sustained throughput and excludes preparation, manual work and extraction. The chat backup uses upload speed, not download speed. The separate account-data ZIP is generally much smaller than this example. Transfer calculations and large-file examples.

Store and check your archive

Keep the account-data ZIP and separately saved media in an encrypted computer folder, with an external-drive copy. A USB key is useful as an extra copy. The Viber conversation backup lives in Google Drive or iCloud for app restoration; this route does not make it an ordinary downloadable archive. Check cloud capacity for the 3 GB example plus other backed-up data.

Record the phone number, cloud account and backup completion date. Restore only through Viber’s supported same-platform process; restoring can replace newer history. Check the separate account ZIP and saved attachments offline. Keep the old phone until recovery succeeds. Storage and recovery instructions.
