Decide what you need

Account closure is broader than cancelling Prime, unsubscribing from email or removing a payment method. Choose the narrow service control if that is your actual goal. If you want to leave the account entirely, review everything listed in Amazon's closure flow before confirming.

Accounts using the same credentials across Amazon country sites can be affected together. A separate account with different credentials needs its own review.

Before you start

Use the Amazon records guide if you want to keep order history or other available records. Save invoices, warranty details or correspondence you expect to need, and open the saved copies outside the account. Keeping a copy is optional.

Review pending deliveries, returns, refunds, gift balances, subscriptions and digital purchases. Check any Photos, device, seller, advertising or other business access connected to the login. Arrange another authorized administrator before closing an account that other people rely on.

Keep access to the email or phone that receives Amazon's confirmation. If you are also deleting that mailbox, complete the dependency review first. Do not treat an unsubscribe message as an account-closure receipt.

On a phone

  1. Open Close your Amazon account in your browser. Use the relevant official Amazon country site if your account directs you there.
  2. Sign in and confirm the correct account.
  3. Read the products and services associated with it.
  4. Select the requested acknowledgment and account-closure action only if the full scope matches your intention.
  5. Watch for Amazon's confirmation email or text and complete it within the stated period.

On a computer

Use the same account-closure page. A larger screen can make the list of affected services easier to review. Amazon's official closure instructions describe an email/text confirmation that must be completed within five days.

Save the receipt after that step. Submitting the first form without completing required verification is not the same as a finished closure.

What happens next

Amazon says a closed account cannot be restored and that services sharing those credentials across its global sites become unavailable. Some records may be retained for legal, fraud-prevention or transaction obligations. Ask for the categories and reasons if you need to understand a particular retained record.

Keep subscription cancellation and closure outcomes separate in your notes. Do not assume every separate service or business contract has ended simply because an ordinary shopping account is inaccessible.

If something goes wrong

If the closure page is unavailable, reach it through the signed-in Amazon site's Help area and search for account closure. Check that the browser remains on an official Amazon domain. Use the sign-in or customer-service route on that same site if access or verification fails.

If the confirmation expires, follow the current official instructions to restart rather than replying to an old or suspicious message. Never send a password or one-time code to SEED. For an unresolved data category, prepare a specific privacy request and retain Amazon's response.

Keep a record

Record the account, affected services you reviewed, initial request date, verification date and final response. Track any separate refund, subscription or retained-record question without labeling it automatically resolved by account closure.

Keep track of your next step.

Save the service to your plan, prepare a request and record any confirmation or reply. A draft, a sent request and a completed deletion each have their own place.
