Choose the result you want
Closing LinkedIn removes your profile and access to the account's information. If your aim is to stop Premium charges, receive fewer messages or change public visibility, use the narrower subscription/settings option instead.
Check the account email and profile, especially if you have an old duplicate account. Deleting the wrong duplicate can remove connections you intended to keep.
Before you start
Use the LinkedIn download guide if you want copies of available records. Open the export before proceeding. You may choose to skip it.
Review Premium, group ownership and any Recruiter, Sales Navigator or other business license. Arrange any necessary reassignment before closure. Keep contact details for people you want to remain in touch with through another service.
If this login depends on Google, Apple or another provider, keep that provider available until the LinkedIn action and any verification are complete. Removing the external sign-in connection is not itself LinkedIn account deletion.
On a phone
- Open LinkedIn and check the profile.
- Tap the profile picture, then Settings → Account preferences.
- Under Account management, choose Close account.
- Continue, select the requested reason and finish the password/identity confirmation.
Use LinkedIn's official closure guide if the app labels differ. Its mobile-browser route is also available when you are not using the app.
On a computer
- Sign in at LinkedIn.
- Open Me → Settings & Privacy → Account preferences.
- Under Account management, open Close account.
- Review the profile and consequences, choose the requested reason and complete the final confirmation.
Do not give a browser extension or removal service your password to perform this step. The guide and request plan can help you prepare, while the provider's own page confirms the account action.
Keep the account and change visibility
Use LinkedIn settings to review public profile visibility, communication preferences and related controls. Check the scope of each choice: fewer emails or a less visible profile is not deletion of the account's underlying records.
Remove individual content through its own menu if that is your goal. If another organization has copied your professional details, contact that organization separately; your LinkedIn settings do not automatically erase its database.
What happens next
LinkedIn says account reopening may be possible in most cases within 14 days, but some items, including endorsements and recommendations, cannot be recovered. Treat closure as a permanent choice rather than a reliable temporary break.
Search engines may show a profile result for a while after closure. Use the search-result guide for an outdated result or an appropriate delisting request. This is separate from LinkedIn's account outcome.
If something goes wrong
Use the access/reset route linked from LinkedIn's official help page. Resolve any ownership, subscription or license issue it identifies before trying again. For a retained data category, request a clear explanation and use the relevant privacy-rights route if needed.
Keep a record
Save the profile URL, account reference, date and confirmation. Keep a public-search observation separate from LinkedIn's reported closure and from any request to an external data broker.
