Choose account deletion or selected cleanup

Account deletion is permanent. Creating a new account later does not restore the old history or contacts. If you only need to remove particular conversations or synced information, review the narrower controls before closing the account.

An app uninstall, logout or removed username is not the same as account deletion. Check the phone number attached to the account, especially when a device contains several Telegram accounts.

Before you start

If you want to preserve selected conversations or files, use the Telegram download guide. Open the saved export before proceeding. You do not need to upload it to SEED, and you may choose to skip an export.

Review channels and groups you created. Decide who should keep administering them, and address ownership or access questions before closing your account. Account deletion does not automatically remove every group's shared history or another participant's copies.

Keep a signed-in Telegram session available for verification. The web account-management code is sent through Telegram, not by SMS. Enter it only on the official Telegram page.

On a phone

Use a browser to open Telegram account management. You will need to switch to your existing Telegram session to read its confirmation code. If this is awkward on a single phone, use the computer route below, which Telegram recommends for this process.

Do not forward the code to SEED or another person. Follow only the confirmation tied to the phone number you intend to remove.

On a computer

  1. Open Telegram's account-deletion route.
  2. Enter your phone number in international format.
  3. Read the code sent to your Telegram account and enter it on that official page.
  4. Choose the account-deletion action, review the consequences and complete the final confirmation.
  5. Keep a private record of the result without retaining the login code.

If the page opens general account management first, select its deletion option. Review Telegram's account-deletion help if an account-security step changes the route.

Remove selected data while keeping the account

Open the intended chat, select messages and review the delete dialog. Where Telegram offers deletion for both participants, check that option deliberately rather than assuming every delete affects everyone. Group and channel permissions can produce different choices.

Review Settings → Privacy and Security for data controls, including synced contacts where available. On iOS, some controls sit within Data Settings. Check the specific item and confirmation before deleting it; a privacy preference or disabled suggestion is not an account closure.

What happens next

Telegram states that account deletion cannot be undone. Other people's copies of sent messages can remain, and groups or channels can continue under remaining administrators. A new account using the same number is a fresh account.

If something goes wrong

For a missing code or lost access, use Telegram support. Check the phone number and existing logged-in sessions before requesting another code. Do not bypass two-step verification or provide credentials to an unofficial tool.

Keep a record

Record the account number privately, the exact action and the confirmation date. If you only deleted messages or contacts, record that scope. Separately track any group/channel work or retained exported files.

Keep track of your next step.

Save the service to your plan, prepare a request and record any confirmation or reply. A draft, a sent request and a completed deletion each have their own place.
